I've got a car load of stuff to give to a charity shop, where do I go?

If you've got a lot of clothes, books or whatever that you want to give to a charity shop it can be tricky as a lot of them are in roads with no vehicle access, especially Burleigh Street. A thread about this on cam.misc suggested some possible solutions:

  • Salvation Army (“Sally Ann's”) on Mill Road - there's a loading area round the back and if you've got big stuff you don't have to walk round to the front and through the shop. Give them a call first to let them know you're coming.
  • Salvation Army shop in Histon High Street.
  • Emmaus out on the A10 past Waterbeach.
  • Romsey Mill shop in Thoday St has a space in front of their side door.
  • You can park at the rear of Oxfam on Burleigh Street. There is a bell near the rear door to the shop. The door is opposite the Debenhams loading bay, the entrance being to the left of the Grafton Centre bus bays.
  • You can also get to the rear of Cancer Research shop in Burleigh Street.
  • Cancer Research UK's shop on Regent Street. There is some on road parking outside and if it's full you can park on the double lines for loading and unloading except between 4pm and 7pm.
  • Cambridge S.O.F.A. are one of the only places which accept electrical goods. They are at the Paddocks on Cherry Hinton Road, and there is plenty of parking.

Finally books and clothes are the two resellable things that you can drop off at recycling centres in supermarket car parks etc.
