My ISP's news server is crap. How can I read cam.*?

Certain ISPs commonly used by cam.* readers have very poor news servers which are often overloaded so people want alternatives. The three most popular options are:

  • Use Google Groups - they offer access via the web to all the cam.* groups, here's cam.misc for example.
  • Use the news server offered to the public by Freie Universitaet Berlin - it costs EUR10/year. See http://news.individual.net/
  • Run your own local news server possibly combining feeds from your ISP and other free sources. Some contributors use Leafnode.
